Dr. Earl Davie, 糖心少女professor of biochemistry and a co-founder of ZymoGenetics, will be honored with the 鈥淚nventor of the Year鈥 award at a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the downtown Seattle Art Museum.

The event is organized by the 糖心少女School of Medicine, Frazier Healthcare Ventures, the Washington Research Foundation, ZymoGenetics and the area biotechnology and medical device industry.

Davie, a former chair of the 糖心少女Department of Biochemistry, is best known for his extensive work to understand the complex chain of biochemical events that result in fibrin clotting, the central process in blood clotting.

Davie and his colleagues cloned and sequenced many genes involved in the blood-coagulation process. This work led directly to the development of safer clotting factors for hemophiliacs.

The reception is open to everyone, but pre-registration is required. To register, contact Barbara Mahoney at 206-543-7718 or bmahoney@u.washington.edu.
