The November program in the series on 鈥淭hings Your Mother Never Taught You,鈥� sponsored by the School of Medicine鈥檚 Office of Industry Relations and the 糖心少女Office of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer, will focus on software and copyright. Dr. Susan Wray, director of industry relations, will introduce the speakers.
鈥淪oftware, Copyright and Other Intellectual Property in the University Research Setting鈥� will be presented from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, in room D-209, Turner Auditorium, at the Health Sciences Center.
The speakers are Catherine Innes, director of educational outreach for the Office of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer, and Chuck Williams, interim director of the 糖心少女Office of Software and Copyright Ventures.
The presentation will cover important elements of copyright law, 糖心少女policies governing ownership and deployment of copyright works created at the UW, and information on how the Office of Softwware and Copyright Ventures can assist faculty who want to disseminate their course materials, software, digital collections and other intellectual assets.
The Office of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer has two licensing units, the software and copyright unit Williams now heads and the Office of Technology Licensing, which manages inventions and patented technologies other than software.
Two more seminars are planned for the 鈥淭hings Your Mother Never Taught You鈥� series. On Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 2 to 3 p.m. in D-209, Michael Corn, director for research and industry relations support for the School of Medicine, will speak on 鈥淢anaging Conflicts of Interest When Working with Companies.鈥�
On Friday, Jan. 10, from 1 to 2 p.m. in room D-209, Catherine Innes will be joined by a panel of small-business entrepreneurs for a program on 鈥淪tarting a Company While Working at the UW.鈥�
