Submitting final transcripts and transferring credits can be confusing, especially if you completed coursework or exams outside the United States. This page gathers official ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®resources in one place so you can quickly find where to send transcripts, how exam credits work, and where to check transfer credit information.

Final Official Transcripts

All admitted students are required to send final official transcripts showing completed coursework. Scanned copies uploaded with your application are not considered official.

General Transcript Guidelines

  • Official transcripts must come from the school or institution, either electronically through an approved service or in a sealed school envelope.
  • Records from schools outside the U.S. must be in English or accompanied by official English translations.
  • If you attended school outside the U.S., send transcripts from each high school attended, even if your current school lists transferred coursework.
  • If you attended any college or university, request an official transcript from each institution attended, even if you earned no credit.

High School Transcripts

  • U.S. high schools: ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®requires a final transcript showing grades 9 through your final year of high school.
  • International high schools: ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®requires transcripts showing grades 10 through your final year of high school, or the equivalent years in your country.

College or University Transcripts

  • Transfer students must send official college or university transcripts from each school attended.
  • If you completed coursework at ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®Bothell or ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®Tacoma, you do not need to submit official ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®transcripts.
  • You still need to submit official transcripts from all other colleges and universities you attended.

How to Send Official Transcripts

Official transcripts should be sent directly to the ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®Office of Admissions. Electronic submission is preferred when available.

Accessible Accordion

Official transcripts may be sent through approved electronic transcript services. This is often the fastest and easiest option when it is available through your school.

  • Official transcripts may be sent through approved services such as Parchment, Transcript Network/Credential Solutions, Scoir, or the Common App.
  • When using Parchment, select ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ® – Seattle, undergraduate admissions as the destination.
  • Students should not send electronic transcripts directly to an email address themselves.
  • Washington state community college students should have transcripts sent electronically.

If your school needs to mail an official transcript, it should be sent directly to the ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®Office of Admissions.

If an official transcript cannot be sent electronically or by mail, a school official may email the transcript to ugatranscripts@uw.edu.

  • The email must be sent by a school official.
  • The sender’s email address must be associated with the sending institution.
  • Transcripts sent from Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, or other generic email providers will not be accepted.
  • Students should not email their own transcripts unless ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®specifically instructs them to do so.

AP, IB, A/AS-Level Exam Credit and Running start

Students who completed AP, IB, A-Level, or AS-Level exams may be eligible for ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®credit. Credit depends on the exam, score, ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®policy, and possible overlap with other exams or college courses.

At UW, AP scores of 3 or higher are considered for college credit awards or placement into ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®courses. AP scores may be submitted only for courses taken while in high school and for tests taken during or within six months after leaving high school.

Students should request official AP scores through College Board and have them sent to the ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®Office of Admissions.

The easiest way to make sure ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®receives your IB transcript is to name ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®as a recipient when you sign up for IB exams. If you did not name ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®as a recipient, contact the IB Organization to request that an official IB transcript be sent directly to the ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®Office of Admissions.

In most cases, ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®awards credit for IB subjects in which the student earned a grade of 4 or higher. Students who earn an IB diploma, not just a certificate, receive 5 additional quarter credits toward ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®graduation requirements.

ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®awards credit only when an official A-Level or AS-Level exam certificate is submitted to the Office of Admissions. Preliminary results, Statements of Results, or unofficial photocopies cannot be used to grant credit.

In general, ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®grants 15 quarter credits for a passing A-Level exam and 7.5 quarter credits for a passing AS-Level exam. No grades are posted for A-Level or AS-Level exams.

Dual credit refers to college-level coursework completed while a student was still in high school, such as Running Start, College in the High School, or similar dual-enrollment programs. If you completed college coursework before graduating from high school, ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®may review those credits for transfer after receiving your official college transcript.

Transfer Credit Resources

If you completed college-level coursework before coming to UW, your credits may be reviewed for transfer. Transfer credit policies depend on the institution, course content, and ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®degree requirements.

  • Use the ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®Equivalency Guide to see how courses from Washington state community and technical colleges may transfer to UW.
  • For courses from other institutions, review UW’s Transfer Credit Policies.
  • After credits are processed, students can check their unofficial transcript through MyUW.
  • For questions about how credits apply to your major or degree requirements, ask your academic adviser.

Common Questions

Accessible Accordion

Have your school send the transcript as soon as possible. Missing the deadline may not affect your ability to register for autumn courses, but it may affect your ability to register for future terms. If there are extenuating circumstances, contact the ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®Office of Admissions.

Review Transcript Deadlines

ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®states that official transcripts usually take 4–6 weeks to process. If it has been more than 6 weeks, contact ugatranscripts@uw.edu before resending documents.

After ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®processes your exam or transfer credit, you should be able to view awarded courses and credits on your unofficial transcript in MyUW.

Bring this up during Advising & Orientation and ask your academic adviser how to proceed. Your adviser can help you understand course placement, registration options, and whether any temporary override or departmental review is appropriate.

Students who complete two exams with duplicate or overlapping content, such as AP and IB in the same subject, or who complete an exam and a college course with overlapping content, will receive credit for only one exam or course.
