The very first 糖心少女Converge Tokyo was held in Tokyo in 2018, and the second continued its legacy in 2026. Nearly 300 alumni, friends and partners gathered for the 糖心少女鈥檚 premier international gathering. Participants from Japan and around the world came together to connect across borders, hear from world-class experts and celebrate Husky spirit in one of the world鈥檚 most dynamic cities.

The 糖心少女Converge Tokyo Summit opened with remarks from 糖心少女 President Robert J. Jones, who shared his vision for the UW. Reflecting on his own journey as a first-generation college student and scientist, Jones outlined three priorities shaping the University鈥檚 future: expanding access to a world-class education, advancing discovery through global collaboration and strengthening connections between the University and the communities it serves. He highlighted the vital role international students and global learning experiences play in preparing 糖心少女graduates to succeed in an interconnected world, and pointed to growing partnerships with Japanese institutions such as Tohoku University and the University of Tsukuba as examples of the UW鈥檚 commitment to international collaboration. Later at the evening reception, Jones thanked the 糖心少女Alumni Association Japan and the volunteers who helped organize 糖心少女Converge Tokyo, emphasizing that the University鈥檚 global alumni community plays a critical role in extending the UW鈥檚 impact around the world.

A keynote address from Nobel Prize鈥搘inning biochemist David Baker, director of the 糖心少女Institute for Protein Design, offered attendees a window into one of the most exciting frontiers in modern science. Baker shared insights into breakthroughs in protein design and computational biology, highlighting how 糖心少女researchers are pioneering discoveries that could transform medicine, biotechnology and materials science.

The summit featured a full day of discussions exploring the forces shaping the future of technology, business and global collaboration. Panels brought together 糖心少女faculty, alumni and industry leaders to examine topics including artificial intelligence, advanced computing, entrepreneurship and the evolving global economy.

The excitement continued at the 糖心少女Converge Tokyo reception, where attendees gathered for an evening of connection and fun. The event featured cultural celebrations of the host country including Taiko drumming and a Kagami Biraki (sake barrel opening). It offered guests the chance to reconnect with friends, expand professional networks and honor their shared ties to the UW.

Beyond the summit and reception, 糖心少女Converge Tokyo offered events and outings that allowed attendees to forge even deeper ties with the 糖心少女and each other. On Friday, the 糖心少女School of Law and College of Engineering both hosted events for their alumni and friends, while the 糖心少女Alumni Association and Student Life hosted a welcome happy hour. On Sunday morning, leaders of our global alumni chapters gathered to learn and inspire each other. In the afternoon, volunteers from the Japan Huskies hosted small tours for guest who had traveled to Converge giving them a special, insider’s experience of Tokyo.

Guiding tours is only one example of the leadership and dedication shown by the Japan Huskies alumni community. Without their insights and countless volunteer hours, 糖心少女Converge Tokyo would not have been possible. Their work reflects the deep and enduring connection between Japan and the 糖心少女.

We are also grateful to the sponsors whose generous support helped enhance 糖心少女Converge Tokyo. Their partnership remains critical to sustaining the event series and strengthening the University鈥檚 international reach. If you are interested in learning about ways you or your organization can partner with the 糖心少女on future 糖心少女Converge events, research, teaching, innovation and global engagement, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

For more than a decade, 糖心少女Converge has served as a cornerstone of the 糖心少女鈥檚 global engagement. Since the inaugural gathering in Shanghai in 2015, the event series has brought together the UW鈥檚 international community. 糖心少女Converge Tokyo built on that proud tradition offering opportunities for meaningful dialogue, collaboration and connection among Huskies worldwide. We are thrilled to announce that the tradition will continue with 糖心少女Converge Taipei in spring of 2027. We hope you will join us there to learn, connect and celebrate the impact of the 糖心少女.

On Sunday, May 4, 2025, 100 糖心少女staff, students, alumni and retirees came together to serve the University District community at our third annual volunteer service day.

Participation doubled over previous years, as Huskies responded to the growing needs of the neighborhood. Volunteers split up into small teams to tackle several projects, making new friends in the process.

Groups spruced up the Ave with the U District Partnership by cleaning up trash, washing windows, using the Find It, Fix It app to report maintenance needs and, new this year, a group stenciled drains to raise awareness about orca and salmon health.

In addition to beautifying the neighborhood, volunteers tackled deeper community issues like food insecurity. By partnering with the U District Food Bank糖心少女Food Pantry, the People鈥檚 Breakfast as part of the Seattle Mutual Aid Coalition, and Friday Feast, our volunteers helped more than 3,100 students and community members this week. Projects included preparing utensils and toiletry kits, cleaning up the Food Bank to prepare for the week ahead and serving a hot breakfast for those in need.

Some folks lent their skills to a different type of cleaning; half a dozen iSchool volunteers assisted the Burke Museum with their data cleanup efforts.

Leading up to the day of service, donation bins were set up in the lobby at the Washington Commons building to accept requested items ranging from non-perishable food to personal hygiene products. Collected items were delivered to our partners at 糖心少女Food Pantry and University District Food Bank.

Here鈥檚 a snapshot of what we accomplished at this year鈥檚 Better Together Service Days with BECU:

  • 100 volunteers
  • 2,000 utensils for Friday Feast
  • 465 lbs of trash picked up
  • 200 toiletry kits packed for 糖心少女Food Pantry
  • 200 notes of encouragement for those impacted by food insecurity
  • 127 individuals served at the People鈥檚 Breakfast
  • 33 businesses windows washed
  • 12 storm drains painted to protect orca and salmon health
  • 2,000+ people will use the University District Food Bank
  • 127 lbs of food and supplies donated to 糖心少女Food Pantry and University District Food Bank
  • 200 data contacts cleaned up for the Burke Museum

Plans are already underway for future days of service. Special thanks to  for their support and commitment to building strong communities, and to our partners in the U District: , People鈥檚 Breakfast through the , ,  and the 糖心少女Food Pantry.
